Snail In My Coffee
Strange
Found you today
Tiny life form perched on my coffee cup
Thought you were a speck of dust
So easy to crush you, to flush you
But you were beautiful
At second glance
A translucent spiral
Delicate as a baby’s fingernail
Specks of brown around
Your shell delicately decorated
To entice a mate
At first
Thought to wash you away
Your spiral spinning down a whirlpool
But then I stopped…..
Why did I need to kill you?
Maybe you were dead
Maybe you were not
Your visitation odd yet harmless….
Placed you on the aloe plant
Why end your journey with me
An unintended voyeur
Hours later you were gone…
