After Words

Met you in a dream again
New coordinates under my feet
Star maps above us spinning fast
My throat tight and mouth tasting sand
I don’t know where I am
I set out to explain the day
But you can’t remember my name
Your face is stone, unbroken
Through the miles we walked in your silence
The distance of your valence hard to comprehend
Stopping you stared into the desolate landscape
And finally spoke, flat and stoic
In hieroglyphics difficult to fathom
“A star has to burn.” you said cryptically
I cried in my hands, “Why must I watch?”
And you simply looked away…
